A few driving and parking habits can reduce the chance of windshield damage from road debris.
Leave extra space behind trucks and vehicles carrying loose material. Gravel, construction debris, and road fragments can strike the windshield even at normal freeway speeds.
Avoid passing too closely when it is safe to do so, and inspect new chips after a drive. Parking in shade can reduce heat stress, but it cannot prevent impact damage.
If a chip appears, protect it from dirt and moisture and arrange an inspection quickly. Prompt repair may reduce the chance of spreading.
